Matthew Brower is a culture sector leader. His practice focuses on the role of culture in shaping human understandings and relationships with the world. He has published broadly on art and culture, curated a wide range of exhibitions, and supervised a broad spectrum of art, culture and heritage projects. He has over 15 years of experience working and volunteering in the cultural and heritage fields.

He has produced a several major international exhibitions of contemporary art and culture. These projects include a Canadian Focus exhibition for the Beijing Biennale to commemorate the 45th anniversary of normalizing relations between Canada and China and a two-site project between the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art and UTAC for the CONTACT Festival that explored contemporary photography’s ability to document and intervene in contemporary politics of space.

Matthew has been the Curator of the University of Toronto Art Centre, the Director of the Museum Studies graduate program at the University of Toronto, and President of the Board of the John B. Aird Gallery. In Museum Studies, he supervised over 100 Capstone Museum projects with partners from across the GTA and around the world. Ranging from education programs and heritage tours to collections plans and exhibitions, these projects used cutting edge museological techniques to solve problems for their host institutions.
